Kicking off the season

9 August 2013

The East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL), celebrating its eightieth year, will kick off the 2013-14 season with a new logo, designed by graphics student Alasdair Muir.

Edinburgh-based Matchday Media (Scotland) Ltd, a regular collaborator with our course in recent years, developed a new digital presence for the association, and invited us to present a selection of branding concepts. Alasdair's design best captured the look and feel EoSFL were looking for - combining a modern clean typographic style with a hint of the classic sports logos from the 1970's and 80's.

We love unzoosual clients

17 March 2013

The One Week Agency project kicks off on Monday, and we can reveal that the client is Edinburgh Zoo.

Earlier this year we had a discussion with the Zoo's Marketing team about a possible collaboration as part of their Centenary celebrations. Opened in July 1913, Edinburgh Zoo is just a couple of miles to the west of Edinburgh city centre, and is home to more than 1,000 rare and endangered animals. The star attractions, the Giant Pandas, had already helped to increase footfall significantly this year, but the Marketing team were looking for a campaign targeted at twenty and thirty-somethings, traditionally the toughest sector to attract to zoos.

Our students visited the Zoo last Thursday to get their research started, and on Monday morning they'll sit down with their respective mentors to analyse the brief and get organised into their agency roles. And then we are off.

Top of the World

15 May 2012

A design by one of our HND Year 1 students will shortly be the highest outdoor visual campaign in the world.

On 8th May, Tanzanian Wilfred Moshi set out as part of an expedition to climb Mount Everest.  Wilfred is currently at Camp 2, some 7000ft short of the summit. When he reaches the top (the first Tanzanian to achieve the feat), he'll be launching the Global Vision Project, an initiative by the Twende Pamoja Trust, and branded by HND1 Graphic Design student Jonathan Walton.

In the past, Twende's Mike Knox has commissioned other design projects from our HND students, and this year he supplied our Year 1 class with a brief to design the 'Hand in Hand' campaign for the Global Vision Project. Jonathan's work was chosen following class presentations to the client.

The current stage of this amazing project will be launched imminently by Wilfred from the top of Mount Everest, followed by further events from Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh (June), and from Mount Kilimanjaro in
August.

Forthquarter Design Winner

17 July 2011

l/r - Chris Hughes, Graphic Design Tutor, Fiona McKenzie, Regeneration Manager for National Grid, Michael Kerr, David Hiddleston, Curriculum Manager.

Well done to HND Year 1 student Michael Kerr, whose Graded Unit project, a live brief for National Grid to produce signage for the Forthquarter development in Granton, was selected as the winning submission.

Michael produced a fully integrated campaign which included logo development, direct mail, signage points, ambient advertising and digital designs for web and mobile.

Michael received £500 in prize money from National Grid's Regeneration Manager, Fiona McKenzie, and will see his ideas become reality when his designs are installed at the three main gates to The Forthquarter Park - West Granton Road, Waterfront Broadway and West Shore Road.

Here's a great example of the work - Michael's logo development visuals -
