YOYP Xmas Alphabet

18 December 2018

We had Whitespace in a couple of weeks ago to run a guerilla day for their Year of Young People project. Whitespace briefed 60 students (also including a class from Napier University) to each take a letter and create a festive themed alphabet. Chris Brohl and Niamh Curran came in to R310 and  over the course of the day the students put together a set of creative letters.  Everything was top secret, given that the results were goign to be used on real Christmas cards.

The resulting alphabet was used to send out letters to Whitespace's clients, friends and supporters. You can check out the results of the project, and read more about it here.

Our Friends at Equator

30 April 2015

Earlier this week we hosted another guerilla day - a short project working with industry collaborators. For these short projects, the class is briefed at 9.15am and they present their concepts at 4pm. This time around we had Patrick Bjorkman and Stephen Noble in from Glasgow's leading digital agency, Equator, so a big thanks to them for their support, enthusiasm and energy.

Guerilla Time, Naturelly

23 April 2015

After the Easter break, all our groups are now working on their final projects, but there was still time to squeeze in one of our famous one day projects.  For this one, mentor Charlie Boyle came in yesterday from Multiply at 9.15am sharp to take our HNC group through a guerilla project.

Charlie gave a presentation on behalf of the client, juice drinks brand Naturelly, and tasked the class to develop a viral video concept to promote Naturelly's Jelly juice drink by 3.30pm that day.

Guerilla projects are a mainstay of the course and one of the key learning strategies we have in place to develop design thinking. Multiply will announce the winner in due course and the idea will be put forward for development. The agency will also be offering a summer placement to the winning team.

Language Please

4 November 2013

Last week we had one of our new mentors, Gregor Matheson, Digital Designer at Lewis, in the studio to do a guerilla day project. Gregor set a brief to promote the positive use of swearing - without actually swearing. The class were put into pairs and their presentations had to include their thought process after receiving the brief, a short rationale behind the concept, and the final outcome. Some of the samples will soon be making their way to our pinterest boards, and it looked like a lot of fun.

Open Wide

3 February 2013

Our HND Year 1 have just finished up their submissions to the MPA Roses Student Awards, and we particularly liked this submission by Emma Fitchie and Ryan Allan for the 'Open Wide' brief - to encourage younger people to change their mind-set about avoiding going to the dentist. The team came up with a novel take on 'going bad'...

Museum Lates / MyType

21 November 2011

HND 2 have just finished 'MyType' - a brief to attract twentysomethings to a aeries of late night exhibitions and happenings at the National Museum of Scotland (currently running as 'RBS Museum Lates').

The mentors were involved in art direction on these projects and provided lots of useful and constructive criticism during the design process.

Samples of kinetic type and interactive apps found their way into some of the solutions, and here are a few samples from the finished projects.
