Moving Stories
20 May 2019
Our annual end-of-year Industry Event and Show takes place this year on June 5th at the Fruitmarket Gallery. We last exhibited there in 2016 and this year the event includes the use of both floors, exhibiting projects from HND Graphic Design, and showcasing the work of the Daydream Believers Schools project.
We'll be hoping for another full house to help us celebrate design education, with attendees from education and industry, as well as parents and friends eager to see the work of the Class of 2019.
This year all our artwork and promotion was done by the hugely talent Balasz Hirth, currently studying in our HNC class. You can book free tickets on Eventbrite.

Moving Week
29 May 2016
This is 'moving week' - the last college week before our end-of-year show. Our final year students will be busy tweaking their Graded Unit projects and preparing them to go to print. Once all the projects are finalised, samples will be posted to our pinterest boards. The range of work this year is really eclectic and features print and digital work across editorial design, mobile, web, corporate identity, advertising, exhibitions, digital publishing, packaging and book design.
Edinburgh Copyshop are producing our A0 boards for the show, and also the collateral for the show campaign - 'A Brief Student Show' - designed by 2015 graduate Simon Griffiths, from blueroom collective.
G.F. Smith are again sponsoring the show by supplying the paper for our invites (including their fabulous Munken Kristall Smooth 120gsm envelopes). The invite mailshot goes out this week to more than 60 agencies, studios and organisations in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Part of the Edinburgh College Glow Festival, 'A Brief Student Show' is on at the Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh, June 9th from 6-9PM. If you are planning to come along but haven't let us know yet, you can register at www.etcshow.net

Showtime
11 May 2016
It's nearly that time of year again. Our design students are midway through their final projects, and the graduating class are gearing up for the annual Industry Night & Show on June 9th. For the second year running, we'll be exhibiting at the prestigious Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh. The event is part of the 'Glow Festival' - a month-long celebration across Edinburgh College featuring a number of exhibitions, show nights and events at venues around the city.

This year our one-night event, entitled 'A Brief Student Show', will feature brilliant graphic design work from our Class of 2016, plus video and design work from our Partnership and mentoring projects, and winning competition work. As usual, there will be refreshments, a great DJ, and upwards of 200 designers, educators, employers and graduates past and present to network with.
To let us know if you can attend the show, go to www.etcshow.net and follow the brief. We'll be posting out print invites (sponsored by G.F Smith) to agencies and individuals once our list is complete.

Talkin' About Our Work
29 September 2015
During our end-of-year Show at the Fruitmarket Gallery, we interviewed industry leaders Iain Valentine (Whitespace), Judson Cowan (Skyscanner), James Jefferson & Patrick Bjorkman (Equator), and graduating student Dan Plunkett (now a designer at Equator). We loved what they had to say about our students, the course, and the event, so over the summer our students took some of the quotes from those interviews and turned them into short typographic films. The one featured here, by Kiera Winfield, is a great piece of work and will be shown later this week at our Mentoring Event.
You can also watch the interviews here.

Our industry supporters and collaborators
Our Industry Night and Show at the Fruitmarket Gallery saw more than 250 designers, creatives and educators from across the creative industries in Edinburgh and Glasgow gather to celebrate design education, and view the work of our graduating graphic design students.
This was our biggest-ever one night show, and we've received lots of fantastic feedback on the quality of the work, and the vibe of the event. A short film about the event will be available soon, featuring interviews with leading industry figures who attended. Check out a selection of images from the night on our flickr stream.

Our Industry Night and Show, sponsored by Innis & Gunn and G.F. Smith, takes place this Thursday at the Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh. Last year, our show won 'Best Educational Event' at the Scottish Event Awards, and has established itself as a unique, one-night-only celebration of Graphic Design and Design Education.
This year we are expecting over 150 designers, industry professionals, graduates and educators to attend. The work being shown is hugely varied and will include typography, branding, advertising and editorial design across a huge range of formats including print, web, digital publishing, experiential, packaging and environmental design.
A range of sample work is on our pinterest boards, but here is a sneak preview of some of the work -

Jakob Sobansky - Lucky Typeface
Stephanie Dalzell - King's Theatre Brand Identity
Dan Plunkett - Wave : wearable Musical Therapy Aid

Rachel Cameron - Your Time : Creative Artists Media Platform
Kris Kubicki - Uisce Beatha : Global Scotch Whisky Guide
Alisha Horn - Oasis : Build Your Character
There's still time to tell us if you can make it along to the show. Just visit www.etcshow.net

One Week with Innis & Gunn
5 May 2015
In the run-up to our Industry Night & Show, which takes place on May 28th at the Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh, we've released a short promo about our recent One Week project.
During the project our HNC and HND design students worked in teams alongside six of Edinburgh's finest creative agencies (Blonde, The Gate, Multiply, Lewis, Realise and Whitespace) and a live client, Scotland's leading craft brewer, Innis and Gunn. More details of our Show will be released soon, in the meantime, we hope you enjoy the film.

Here's a short video from our recent Industry Night & Show at Creative Exchange. Big thanks to the film team of Adam Cosgrove, David McLachlan and Richard McCallister, and also to photographer Derek Anderson, whose stills will soon be available to view on flickr.
Design Thinking
3 June 2014
At our hugely successful Industry Night & Show on May 29th, the top floor of the Creative Exchange was given over to sketchbooks and portfolios, and proved to be just as busy as the exhibiting two floors below. Sketchbooks are the key evidence we use for assessing design thinking, and thanks to our colleagues in the Film & TV Dept, this short film shows our HND students talking through their project sketchbooks, a fascinating addition to the finished work.
Industry Night & Show 2014
8 May 2014
Massimo Vignelli once said that 'Design is a conversation with a situation'. As we head into the degree show season, our situation is that 18 HND Graphic Design students will be graduating this year, and most of them will be looking to move into industry as junior designers. Some of them are already working at agencies part-time, and all of them will be exhibiting projects that are the culmination of two years of dedicated design education and a lot of hard work. So our 2014 Show is themed around the conversation that graduates and employers should be having with each other about design, creativity, potential, and success.
Last year we hosted a one-night-only event aimed at getting as many of our friends and colleagues from industry in one place at one time to view the work of our graduating students. The show took place at Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre Bar, and subsequently won a Commendation for Best Educational Event at the Scottish Event Awards. This year we've tried to build upon that success, and can announce that the Industry Night and Graduate Show will take place on Thursday May 29th at Creative Exchange in Leith, from 6pm till late.
The event will be sponsored by Cutty Sark Whisky, and GF Smith will be supplying the paper for our print-based promotional media. To find out more, visit www.etcshow.net and let us know if you want to say yes and be a part of the conversation.
